Church Governance

The Lord was very clear in His Word about how He wishes His church on earth to be organised and managed. First, Christ is the head of the church and its supreme authority (Ephesians 1:22; 4:15; Colossians 1:18). Second, the local church is to be autonomous, free from any external authority or control, with the right of self-government and freedom from the interference of any hierarchy of individuals or organisations (Titus 1:5). Third, the church is to be governed by spiritual leadership consisting of two main offices, elders and deacons.

And he is the head of the body, the church: who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead; that in all things he might have the pre-eminence.

Colossians 1:18

But the end of all things is at hand; therefore be serious and watchful in your prayers. And above all things have fervent love for one another, for “love will cover a multitude of sins.”

1 Peter 4:7-8
